I slept in again today, and then had to hang an apron over the bathroom window while I showered, since Dick Larsen and his assistant were already out by the chimney, digging a hole into which they later began pouring concrete.
The problem with the chimney is that it was not built on any sort of foundation; it just sat on bare dirt. Consequently, it was sinking slightly each year, tilting south as it went, and pulling the cabin along with it. So we are getting a proper foundation put in, which will at the least stop the tilt from getting worse, and may ever so slightly prop the chimney back up in the correct direction. (But we do not have much expectation of that last.)
Aunt Cara decided that we should do a jigsaw puzzle last night and selected a 500-piece Art Nouveau picture, after which she went to bed and left me, Mom, and Dad to finish it. Today she selected a 1000-piece picture of a kite-flying festival in San Francisco, and again left Mom, Dad, and me to do most of the work. Mom has consequently sworn off puzzles for the rest of this vacation.
We went out for dinner, to Boulders down in Walker. Aunt Cara and I split a calamari appetizer, while Mom had a house chop salad and Dad had onion soup. For the main course, I had shrimp linguini, Mom and Aunt Cara each had the crab-crusted grouper, and Dad had paella. We tried a Spanish wine -- Licia Albarino -- since we are almost certainly going to Spain for Christmas, and Mom and Dad are keen on gaining familiarity with the likely local wine options. :-) This one was quite decent.
Tomorrow the other three plan to hike all the way around Lake Windigo. I will accompany them at least part of the way, but I may turn back (with or without the dog) and attempt to do some editing on "Secrets." Or I may walk the whole way -- who knows!
