The weather continues to be irritating. It’s so hard to focus or do much of, well, anything. Between lack of focus and being drained the last few days have been a bit eh. And it’s been really annoying cause, as mentioned before I can’t even do much at night cause my eyes or head aches which ugh.

And I can’t even listen to audio stuff half the time without losing my focus and having to pause and rewind.

Bleh it’s so annoying.

It feels it could be shifting cause there’s been rain but at the same time it doesn’t feel enough.

But anyway onto things the last few days.

Tuesday was the library stint where I started Cards On The Table (which seems pretty good so far) and I also read one of my comics, Exquisite Corpses. The premise is pretty intriguing, every four years an American town is cut off from the world and the 13 richest families send killers in there and the family withkiller that survives gets to rule for the next four years. Being a first ep it’s mostly introducing the concept, the killers and some people of the town (who are no doubt gonna have a terrible not good time caught in the crossfire). I am tempted to get the other issues, but I’ve got conflicting info about how long it’s gonna be so I need to find that out.

That night we watched Hell Motel on shudder which was pretty great so far. I dunno if anyone else is thinking of watching but you should! The first two eps were really good and I have no idea of where it’s gonna go. (Well other than more people are going die, but that’s a given)

Unfortunately that night was probably the night I did the most cause every other night was draining or achy cause of this damn heat. Bleh I did do Dredge some more in bits and pieces. I finished the third area, the one in the swamp, so I’ve got one area left of the main game (though I have the dlc stuff and started fixing the rig). I do wanna get the ship’s hull expanded before going and see if there’s side quest stuff to do first but we’ll see.

I got a mail saying there was £10 off a £40 shop at the co-op so after debating (cause of the heat and cause it’s at the co-op by the station) we decided to go Friday which probably was the best day to do it. Of course doing that was pretty tiring too but, well £10 off is £10 off.

After debating I did end up getting Civilization vii from cdkeys so I played two games and damn I forgot how long they could be. First game was as Hatshepsut and ended in a lose but I blame having two ai people near me who constantly picked fights with me at the same time. Second game was Harriet Tubman and that was more peaceful (two ai’s picked fights with each other and tried to get me involved but I was like nah) but it still ended up in a loss, though I was close to a scientific victory. I dunno when I’ll do another game cause it is a massive timesink.

Today we might watch Better Man (I picked it up for mum) and finish an ESO event thing (though ugh it seems the new season isn’t included in the eso+ for some irritating reason) and then maybe Saltburn tonight cause it’s on tv. Though I sense I’ll mostly flop and have no focus again.

But speaking of films I did use the Amazon credit I got on I Know What You Did Last Summer (cause most of the things I thought of weren’t there and the trailer for the new one made me wanna watch) so I’ll watch before the new one, whenever that is.

And also yay! James Marriott’s album is number 1!

I hit the Bakery while I was downtown and got in a walk around the park. (I got in two additional walks later for a total of 1 mile!) I did two loads of laundry, the usual amount of hand-washing dishes, and scooped kitty litter. I finished the book I started yesterday and spent most of the day with mom.

Temps started out at 61.3(F) and reached 87 (according to Pip, since I didn’t get home until after the temps hit the high). It was hot, but I luckily spent most of the day inside an air conditioned house.

Movies: I just watched Whatever Happened to Baby Jane (1962) this week, which was creepy fun, if a little slow for me. (I felt that it had a cracking pace in the beginning, then really slowed down; the people in my horror club mostly felt the opposite.) Creepy from the beginning, especially with that doll, showing off a particular horror of the child star. Bette Davis is like a haunted doll come to life in this, but Joan Crawford keeps pace with her. They are so good at their characters' particular varieties of co-dependent dysfunction, and the twist at the end (which you can see coming, tbh) just intensifies the horror of what they've done to each other. And I know Joan Crawford was an odious person but, my gosh, she was so beautiful.

TBH, though, some of the other camp, like the voice acting on a couple of side characters, was a little too much for me, and I did think it dragged at some points, so it wasn't unqualified enjoyment for me.

Bleach: I have continued my watch and I've now finished 212. I enjoyed the flashback arc. Urahara is so terrible 💔 sometimes I love his terribleness and sometimes he's just the worst. Read more... )

Random, but I do always laugh at the backstory that reveals why Hisagi has 69 tattooed on his face.

I thought maybe if I'm getting back into Bleach I should also get back into Naruto, but when I reread the first few chapters of that I mostly felt too old for it 🤣 Last time I read Naruto I think I dropped it one arc after the timeskip. I got to see some cool Gaara stuff and then was like, okay, I'm done. I feel like Bleach I can reread because it's slightly more mature, even if not actually particularly mature. Like, at least he's 15 when it starts and half the characters are 100+ years old.

Weirdly on this reread & watch I've gotten really hyped by Kenpachi's moments of mature adult-ness?! Like obviously mostly he's there for a bit of biffo, but I love the flashback where he tells Ikkaku to knock it off with the death wish and grow tf up, and the bit in Hueco Mundo where he tells Ichigo it's not his job to save everyone and everything because the captains are there to do that.

Midnight Shine - "Heart of Gold" (Youtube link)

Heard this cover of Neil Young's song on the radio today; loved it and had to share. The final verse is translated into Cree and it sounds really good!

I haven't heard of this band before. Will have to look them up more later, 'cause I really like what I hear.

If only the US gave more of a shit about separation of powers, which gives Congress the power to declare war. Congress.

Seems pretty straightforward to me as a thing the Constitution says POTUS can't fucking do.

I hope you didn't find out about the unprovoked attack on Iran by the US from a Destiel news meme.

note to self: do not purchase children's bandaids. children's bandaids were invented by an unlicensed sadist. sure, they're cute. but there's a reason kids hate having them removed, and that is: they don't come off! not without taking your skin with them.

boycott children's bandaids. even if they have SpongeBob on them.

For those who like the Greek classics, I'm gratified to announce my little one-act play on the death of Orpheus, "Orpheus Changed" is up at Eternal Haunted Summer. Summary: middle-aged Orpheus meets an old woman on a hill and they have a chat that preserves the three unities of ancient Greek drama.
